Business: African Safari Roots is an enthusiastic specialist safari company. Our clients’ trips are tailor-made around places we’ve checked out. To get things right, we believe in a one-on-one relationship.
To me, Africa is: Home. I was born in Malawi and am the fourth generation in my family to grow up in Africa. It’s a continent of friendship, laughter, beauty, diversity and the world’s finest wildlife. Say ‘safari’ and I think of: Campfire smoke, the crispness of a winter dawn when sleeping out under a mozzie net, groans of lion after dark, African folklore, a hot soapy bush-shower after a few days walking, closing my eyes and simply listening. I’ll never forget: Tracking brown hyena on the Skeleton Coast, canoeing the Lower Zambezi, diving off Mafia Island... or running the London Marathon dressed as a cheetah! Advice for first-time visitors: Get the advice of someone who’s been, and pay a little more for the right trip. Choose a few parks with diverse wildlife and stay as long as possible. If you can afford a private guide, you won’t regret it. Top tips: I recommend ‘bush home’ style retreats, staying in an African village, joining a mobile tented safari, or taking over a small lodge with the kids and close friends. Keep it small and personal. Contact: www.africansafariroots.com
