The government of South African  has donated 160 elephants to Lusenga Plains National Park in Zambia’s Luapula province. Part of an ongoing restocking programme, the latest arrivals are joining hundreds of zebra, wildebeest and impala that have been moved into the park by the Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA). Clement Siame, Secretary of Luapula called on ZAWA and local authorities in Luapula to ensure that the restocked animals are protected from poaching.

 

A recent three-day event was held to promote the tourism potential of the province, with 150 local and international tourists attending. Hosted by Tourism and Natural Resources Minister Michael Kaingu, the event took in a culture night in Mansa and a tour of the Kabwelume and Lumangwe water falls. The trip was also coupled with boat racing at Bangweulu Lake and a beach party at Samfya Beach, which incorporated traditional music and dance.
