Edition 49: iSimangaliso and Addo
I was interested to read about iSimangaliso (‘i for iSimangaliso’, Ed 48, Autumn 2009). We spent five nights at Hilltop Camp in Hluhluwe-Imfolozi in March, and enjoyed the treat of wild dogs walking right by our car, followed at some distance by a lioness.

We had several other very good lion sightings, both on our own and on guided night drives. We spent a magical half an hour watching three young lions, and there was not another soul in sight! There were also lots of white rhino encountered, of course. And all this for a very reasonable nightly rate in a thatched chalet. I’d thoroughly recommend it.

This coming week we’re off to Addo again. I also enjoyed reading the article about it (‘Getting lucky’, Ed 46, Spring 2009). With self-catering chalets for £35 per person per night, who needs to spend loads on posh safari camps? Can’t wait!
