Oli Dreike - The Dreike Scholarship Fund
Charity: We have a simple aim – to help Africans who live near wildlife areas to enjoy a decent education. This allows them to improve their quality of life and gives them the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions and potential.

What inspired you to start the charity? Having run camps and lodges for both The Bushcamp Company in Zambia and Volcanoes Safaris in Uganda and Rwanda for many years, and with a recent MSc in conservation and tourism, I wanted to contribute to the future of Africa’s threatened wildlife areas and their people.

Most memorable occasion in Africa: Revisiting the Nyakagezi gorilla group in Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park last year. I first visited them 12 years ago, and to see the young males, now silverbacks, was wonderful. Watching gorillas is always memorable, but that visit will always be special for me.

Most extraordinary place in Africa: Kuyenda Bushcamp in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park.

Top tip for intrepid travellers: Make the effort to visit local people when on safari.
