Business: The Hide Safari Camp is a privately-owned, owner-operated camp situated on a concession in the iconic Hwange National Park. Awarded ‘Best Safari Camp in Zimbabwe’ on 13 occasions, The Hide is wild on comfort and passionate about nature. We pride ourselves on having a family of experienced and enthusiastic guides, and offer game drives, safari walks and concealed hides where visitors can get up-close-and-personal experiences with the wildlife.
What inspired you to start in the business? Following seven wonderful years of playing international cricket for Zimbabwe, I chose to venture into the business world. Eventually the opportunity to become involved in The Hide arose, and as I had a lifelong passion for nature and wildlife I jumped at the chance. It’s the best of both worlds – mixing business with work preserving our environment.
Most memorable occasion in Africa: I joined four other men in an intrepid 140km walk across the soft Kalahari sands of Hwange National Park to raise awareness and funds for Friends of Hwange Trust. En route we had an unforgettable moonlit encounter with a herd of elephants while we slept at a waterhole.
Most extraordinary place in Africa: Victoria Falls – the wonder of this beautiful creation is extraordinary.
