Accommodation Special: Dream Lodge
Issue 27
It will never be built - but it's still fun to imagine what the perfect Dream Lodge might be like. We asked Travel Africa subscribers to vote for the best bits of their favourite camps and lodges. Hundreds of you responded, and the results show that.

BEDROOM Tongabezi Lodge
A long-established favourite, this stylish Zambian lodge set just upstream from Victoria Falls has nine cottages, all with views of the Zambezi River. But it was the decadent open-fronted honeymoon suite with its supremely romantic setting and seductive sunken stone bath that clinched the vote. www.tongabezi.com

BATHROOM Elsa's Kopje
Giving many camps and lodges a run for their money in several of our Dream Lodge categories, Elsa's Kopje came out tops for the most desirable bathroom. Hardly surprising when you contemplate those wonderful views across Kenya's Meru National Park. www.chelipeacock.com

VIEW Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
A runaway winner, your vote for the view-to-die-for went to Tanzania's Ngorongoro Crater Lodge. Perched at 2140m above sea level, this stilted stone, timber and thatch lodge has incredible views from the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. Each large butler-serviced suite has its own fireplace and crater-view balcony. www.ccafrica.com

SPA Banyan Tree
When it comes to sheer indulgence, your vote for the dream spa went to the Banyan Tree, an intimate luxury resort on Mahé in the Seychelles. Its internationally- renowned spa has eight pavilions where you can experience an array of massage treatments, beauty remedies and ancient healing techniques. www.banyantree.com

RESTAURANT Singita Lebombo
With its own bush cellar of award-winning South African wines and a celebrated executive chef preparing modern international cuisine based on wholesome wild ingredients, Singita Lebombo is your dream dining destination. www.singita.com

HIDE Savute Camp
For wildlife-watching, an old favourite, The Hide at Botswana's Savute Camp, stampeded away with the votes in our Dream Lodge poll. www.wilderness-safaris.com

BAR Jack's Camp
Where better to enjoy a G&T or chilled beer than from a simple, impromptu table and chairs set up in the middle of Botswana's Makgadikgadi Pans? According to our poll, no one does sundowners better than Jack's Camp. www.wilderness-safaris.com

POOL Ol Malo
There are some sensational swimming pools in Africa, if the range of votes we received in this category is anything to go by. Top of the dips, however, goes to Ol Malo, an atmospheric lodge of just four cottages built into rocks on Kenya's Laikipia Plateau. www.olmalo.com
